Each of our courses are designed to not only be straightforward and simple, but also valuable to your career.

To begin the renewal process, you will need to complete 3 steps listed below.

1. Review the State Requirements

The first step to renewing your insurance license is to review Louisiana’s CE requirements. Depending on which lines of insurance you’re licensed in, the continuing education hours you’re required to complete will vary. All hours must be completed and reported prior to your license renewal date to avoid a lapse in your license.

General Requirements

How many total hours of CE do I need to complete?
Producers and adjusters are required to complete 24 total hours every 2 years.

What courses can I take to satisfy my total hour requirement?
21 of your total hours must be approved for the line(s) of insurance you’re licensed to sell. The remaining 3 hours must be approved as Ethics.

Can I take any continuing education course?
No. You can only take courses that are approved for the line(s) of insurance you are licensed to sell.

When is the renewal date for my insurance license?
For producers and adjusters, the renewal date occurs every 2 years on the last day of your birth month, with odd or even license numbers determining the renewal year.

  • Licenses that end in an even number will renew in even-numbered years
  • Licenses that end in an odd number will renew in odd-number years

Do extra hours completed in a previous CE period carry over?
The state of Louisiana allows excess continuing education hours to be carried over into the next renewal period, up to 10 hours.

Can I repeat Continuing Education courses for credit?
No, you may not repeat courses for credit more than once in a two-year period. Completion dates must be at least 24 months apart.

Am I exempt from Continuing Education?
The following individuals are exempt from completing CE requirements:

  • A producer or adjuster who is prevented from meeting CE requirements for renewal of their license due to military service may request a waiver of those requirements and renewal of the license.
  • A licensed producer or adjuster who is prevented from meeting CE requirements for their license due to a medical condition or injury may request a waiver of those requirements and renewal of the license.
  • Insurance producers may request an exemption from CE requirements if the producer:
    • Attained age 65 before January 1, 2012
    • Has a minimum of 15 years experience as a licensed producer
    • Is no longer actively engaged in the business of insurance OR is engaged in the business of insurance and is appointed by at least one Louisiana licensed insurance company
    • Submits a completed 65A Exemption Form to the Department

If you believe you qualify for an exemption, contact the Louisiana Department of Insurance at (225) 219-7784, or submit an email inquiry.
