To begin the renewal process, you will need to complete 3 steps listed below.
1. Review the State Requirements
The first step to renewing your insurance license is to review Mississippi’s CE requirements. Depending on which lines of insurance you’re licensed in, the continuing education hours you’re required to complete will vary. All hours must be completed and reported prior to your license renewal date to avoid a lapse in your license.
General Requirements
How many total hours of CE do I need to complete?
Producers and Adjusters are required to complete 24 total hours every 2 years for producers and adjusters.
What courses can I take to satisfy my total hour requirement?
21 of your total hours must be approved for the line(s) of insurance you’re licensed to sell. The remaining 3 hours must be approved as Ethics.
Can I take any continuing education course?
No. You can only take courses that are approved for the line(s) of insurance you are licensed to sell. Adjusters can take courses approved for Property & Casualty as well as Adjuster for credit.
When is the renewal date for my insurance license?
The renewal date occurs every 2 years on the last day of your birth month. Producers and adjusters whose licenses have been in effect for a license term of 18 months or less are required to complete 12 CE hours without ethics during the licensing term. Upon renewal, a 2-year license will be issued.
Do extra hours completed in a previous CE period carry over?
Carryover hours are not allowed.
Can I repeat Continuing Education courses for credit?
No, you may not repeat courses for credit in the same renewal period.
Am I exempt from Continuing Education?
The following individuals are exempt from completing CE requirements:
- Nonresidents
- Inactive producers
- Producers holding industrial fire, industrial LAH, credit life, credit A&H, vehicle physical damage, or credit property limited lines licenses
- New licensed producers are exempt for the reporting period the license is issued
- Individuals 65 years or older who have been licensed for a continuous period of 25 years or more
If you believe you qualify for an exemption, contact the Mississippi Department of Insurance at 601-359-3582, or submit an email inquiry.
