1. Review the State Requirements

In order to renew your insurance license, you must complete the required continuing education hours for the lines of insurance that you are licensed in. All of the hours must be completed and reported prior to your license renewal date to avoid a lapse in your license.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Total Hours

24 hours biennially for Producers and Adjusters

Compliance Renewal Date

Renewal date is the last day of the licensee's birth month, biennially.

You may also need to take specific courses or earn specific credit types to renew your license. These course completions will count toward the total hour requirement.

LINE-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

CE Course Category Restrictions - Licensees must take courses in license type held.

For All Licenses:

Ethics
3 hrs - Producers and Adjusters must complete 3 hrs of Ethics as part of the total requirement.

State Law
2 hrs - Producers and Adjusters must complete 2 hrs of state legislative updates as part of the total requirement.

For Life & Health Producers:

Annuity Best Interest- Effective September 1, 2023

4 hrs - All producers newly licensed with a Life line of authority on or after September 1, 2023, must complete a one-time 4-Hour Annuity Best Interest Certification Training course before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuities.

Annuity Best Interest- Effective November 1, 2023

1 hr - All producers licensed and certified to sell annuity products in Oklahoma prior to November 1, 2023 must complete an updated Annuity Best Interest course no later than April 30, 2024. 
          A.D. Banker & Company's 1-hour online and live webinars will be activated November 1st.

ReciprocityAnnuity Best Interest training courses completed in any other state that has adopted the NAIC 2020 Annuity Model Law updates reciprocate with the Oklahoma requirement.

Long-Term Care Partnership
8/4 hrs - Producers must complete an initial 8-hour Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP) Certification Training prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating Long-Term Care Partnership products/policies. After completing the initial requirement, producers must complete a 4-hour ongoing LTC training, due every renewal thereafter.

For Property & Casualty Producers and Adjusters holding a Property line of authority:

Earthquake Coverage - Effective 9/1/2023 - the Earthquake CE requirement is no longer required for any line of authority.
1 hr - All resident agents, adjusters and CSRs with a property line of authority must complete a 1-hour course on earthquake coverage every renewal cycle. This will only remain applicable to renewals on or BEFORE August 31,2023.

CARRYOVER HOURS:

A maximum of 6 hours may be carried forward into the renewal period. Hours will be carried over as general credit.

COURSE REPETITION:

Courses may not be taken more than once in a two-year period.  Completion dates must be at least 24 months apart.

If you meet any of criteria below, you may be exempt from the continuing education requirements.

EXEMPTIONS:

  • Non-resident producers - basic CE is considered to be reciprocal with the producer’s resident state if that state has a CE requirement and the producer has met all of the requirements of that state.
  • Limited lines producers

Active membership in a professional insurance organization may be granted up to 1 hour of legislative update CE credit annually; however, licensees are not exempt from their remaining CE requirements. 


2. Register for and Complete Courses

Once you have determined the renewal requirements for your license, you can register for courses. Each course has an associated credit type; when registering for courses, select courses with credit types that will help to fulfill the renewal requirements for your license.

You must fulfill the course requirements for each of the courses to have them reported.

  • Classroom and webinar course completions are based off of attendance and participation and do not require a completion exam. You must be present for the full duration of the course and be active and attentive throughout to receive credit.
  • Online and Self Study courses are self-paced. You must review the course material and pass the Certification Exam at the end to receive credit.

MONITOR REQUIREMENTS:

Online and self study exams do not require a monitor.

REPORTING METHOD:

Once a course has been completed, the completion must be reported to the state. A.D. Banker will report the course completions to State Based Systems.


3. File a Renewal Application

Once you have satisfied the renewal requirements for your license, you can file a renewal application at www.sircon.com/adbanker.
